Is there much difference between running a 100m on grass than there is on a track? I recently ran a 12 sec 100m on our rugby pitch in rugby boots and it was pretty muddy and cold. People have told me that this could be an 11.6/11.5 on track, is this reasonable?

Are your friends time estimates reasonable? I’d suggest their estimates are highly conservative and that you could go MUCH faster.
First, you were on grass and it was also muddy. So, no matter what, your feet were slipping on each and every step as grass and mud are slippery. The surface was irregular. THAT is why they use SPIKED shoes in track.
In addition, you were using shoes that were heavier and designed for a totally different event. Track shoes weigh only about eight ounces each … You choose different styles and lengths of spikes depending on your event (sprinters usually use a rigid spike about 3/8 of an inch long) and the surface you’re running on.
With some good coaching and training, you could go fast!
I think its a shame that the next world cup will be reduced to 16 teams. Surely this is not going to help rugby take root around the world?
The gap is narrowing between the top 10 nations and the rest. Tonga and Fiji are improving, and Georgia gave Ireland a hell of a scare! Also Romania, USA, Canada and even Portugal have put in creditable performances.
Surely the IRB should recognise this, and actually give the minnows something to aim at over the next 4 years, as well as more funding!

PS; Id like to see the RWC stay at 20 teams in 2011, or even expand to 24, you could throw in Uruguay, Croatia, Russia, Chile, Papua etc as well!

You would have thought they would want to promote the game worldwide by expanding the numbers of teams not decreasing it!
You only have to look at the fight Georgia put up against Ireland, a country that only has 600 hundred rugby players!
These teams really want to be recognised as a National Rugby teams!
There are many countries who wanted to, but failed to qualify, for RWC 2007, and they are now saying those who did qualify for RWC 2007, cannot play in the 2011……..does not make sense!
As for the Pumas in the 6(7)N’s, as most play in Europe, there is no reason for them to join and be based in Malta or another Isle to join us!

England manager Martin Johnson today confronted Australia’s obsession with arch-nemesis Jonny Wilkinson and told them: “Get over it”.
The Wallabies still fear the man who wrecked their World Cup dreams at successive tournaments – on home soil in 2003, when Johnson lifted the Webb Ellis trophy, and again in the quarter-finals four years later.
The reality is that Wilkinson has spent most of the last seven years overcoming a catalogue of injuries and, as well as he played for Toulon this season, his Six Nations form was patchy.
Toby Flood replaced Wilkinson for England’s last game against France and he has retained the fly-half jersey for the cook Cup showdown in Perth.
With that aura intact Down Under, Australia’s players could scarcely believe England would not start with Wilkinson in Saturday’s first test.
Asked whether Johnson had considered playing on the mental scars of 2003 by starting with Wilkinson at Subiaco Oval, he said: “It is a long time ago for us. You all probably need to get over it.
Wilkinson is back on Australian soil for the first time in any capacity since England won the World Cup in 2003.
From the moment of their arrival, the England team management were inundated with requests from television and radio stations in Australia for Wilkinson to make personal appearances.

“The local guys have been keen to talk about the olden days, which is great for them and you can tell they are still massively competitive,” said Wilkinson.
